Frequently asked questions

  • My role in Tend is both as a educator and carer, providing evidence-based knowledge and practical support for you and your baby.

This role is complemented by the traditional duties of a postpartum doula, which include providing a safe, judgement free space to celebrate your birth experience story, to share your anxieties and concerns as a new parent, and to provide a caring presence in the comfort of your home.

Doulas are also there to provide resources and education in areas such as breastfeeding, mental health support and village building, allowing you feel supported to make informed choices that feel right for you and your family as you prepare this blossoming journey ahead.

  • My focused practices are best suited within the initial postpartum period, once bub has arrived. For most new parents, this means that my care, support and education is shared in the 6 to 10 week period after your baby is born. However, you may also realise that you would benefit from the support of a doula later in your parenting journey - I don’t impose limitations and encourage you to go with what feels right for you.

  • With every offering package an in person prenatal appointment is included to discuss your personal goals for you and your family in your postpartum journey before baby arrrives. We will then bespoke our visits, eg some mothers will really appreciate the resources and education, some a warm nourishing meal, some a gentle touch and a non judgmental ear to hold space. Often all of the above sometimes on different days and weeks we needs different support.

  • Not at all! I am a believer that all parents are deserving of nurturing and support in this new chapter. I provide inclusive support for a diverse range of families that are welcoming a child into their lives, acknowledging and embracing homes with important cultural and Indigenous practices, adoptive parents, households with with neurodiverse qualities, and members of the LGBTQI+ community.

  • In-home visits are currently available for residents of the greater Byron & Ballina shires.

  • Absolutely! The ‘Tend Together’ package is a single visit offering which makes a touching gift to a friend or loved one. This is a caring way to offer support when they need it most. All of the Tend packages are also able to be arranged as generous gifts.
